Course Record |
| Two new course records in the same year by the same player. Can anybody beat that? On Sunday, 16 March 2003, club professional Peter Mwangi broke Limuru's long standing course record with a magnificent nine-under par score of 62. To make a point, Mwangi went two shots better on Thursday 11, December 2003, shooting an eleven-under 60. On this occasion, Mwangi was accompanied by Limuru amateur members Peter Walsh, Harjote Grewal and Andy Ayres. After shooting an impressive 44 stapleford to win the previous weekend's Club event off handicap 22 the previous weekend, Andy was confident he would emerge best of the four players. "When Mwangi went six under after just the first four holes, I had a gut feeling that we were going to witness something special and that proved to be the case", said Andy afterwards. All three amateurs had the honour of signing Mwangi's record score card in the Club House. | |

| For the record, Mwangi carded 4 eagles, 5 birdies, 7 pars and 2 bogies. "I got off to a dream start shooting birdie-eagle-eagle-birdie: it might even have been better as I hit the pin with my second shot on the par-4 fourth. At six-under going into the back nine, I felt I was playing well enough to possibly match my own course record. After going seven under on hole eleven, I made things difficult for myself by dropping back to six-under after a bogie on thirteen. However as luck would have it, I shot birdie-eagle in succession on the par-3 fourteenth and par-5 fifteenth. This brought me level on nine-under with my own record. Then the nerves set in and I just saved pars on sixteen and seventeen. On the eighteen tee, my fourball companions gave me tremendous encouragement which settled me and I carded an eagle", said a delighted Mwangi. | |

| "When its your day, its your day", said Irishman and fourball companion Peter Walsh. "And to think we only drafted him into the fourball at the eleventh hour when one of our original group had to withdraw". And what next for Mwangi? "Well I now hold the overall course record as well as the records for the both nines. Breaking 60 is obviously the next target", said Mwangi. If I really had a wish, it would be to get a sponsorship break that would get me any professional tour card. And if I had a one golf dream that could come true for my family, it would opening a letter from America containing an invite to the Masters", he added. | |
