League 2004
The Nairobi and District League is a unique inter-club competition which Limuru and nine other clubs compete in annually. During 2004 we have played at home against Kiambu, Thika, Vet Lab and Windsor, and traveled to Muthaiga, Sigona, Railway and Royal. The format is four-ball-better-ball. There are two divisions - A for the best players and 'Subsidiary' for the medium and high handicappers. A total of 18 points is at stake in each match: 12 points in the A Division games and 6 points in the B Division. Six games are played in the A division with two points at stake in each game. A maximum of two strokes is conceded by the best player in any A division fourball game. A minimum of three games must be played in the Subsidiary, and as many thereafter as the Clubs agree upon beforehand. It is winner-take-all for the six points in the 'Subs', so every game is important. Shots conceded in any 'Subs' fourball are three-quarters of the high-low handicap differential within the fourball. Matches are played on Sundays from March - October and there is a grand finale End-of-League in November at one of the competing club's courses followed by prize giving to the winning clubs. The club with the best average score over the nine games is declared the overall winner. A good victory in our final home match against Karen on Sunday October 24 will see us finish proud runners-up for the third year running. Our progress to top spot in 2004 was severely checked by heavy defeats at our traditional away 'graveyards' in Sigona and Muthaiga - see you guys in Limuru next year! However, once again, the Limuru Charlies are the runaway winners of the unofficial badge of honour for social post mortems at the nineteenth hole with a special citation for sufferings inflicted on innocent patrons of away clubs. For 2005, we encourage our colleagues from other clubs to increase their post match social stamina on league match days and to field teams of minimum size 30 so we can satisfy the demand for places on our team. Thanks to all our participating members for their fantastic contributions in 2004 and let's go one better in 2005. Yassin Awale, LCC League Convener.
